International Calling Questions and Answers

1.  How do I place an international long distance call?

Just dial international prefix (011) + the country code + the city code + the local phone number.  Click here for a listing of country codes and city codes.

2.  What are the rates for direct dial, international long distance calls?

Click here for a complete list if all international calling rates for all countries.

3.  What if I call someone in a foreign country on their cellular or mobile phone?

The cost per minute is the same as the normal landline cost per minute, unless there is a separate "Mobile and Special Services" call rate listed for the country.  Calls to cellular or mobile numbers can be  much more expensive than international calls placed to normal landlines of the same foreign country.  Click here for a complete list if all international calling rates for all countries, including calls placed to cellular or mobile phones.

4.  On international calls, what does "NGN" mean?

NGN is an acronym for "Non-Geographic Number."  It applies to audiotext and other information services in the foreign country where the international call is placed.  These are equivalent to "1-900" numbers in the United States.  Calls to these numbers would be billed at a special services rate, and are generally much more expensive than international calls placed to normal landlines of the same foreign country.
